The Conference is a Safe Space!
We want to make sure the 29th Interamerican Scout Conference to be a safe and positive experience for everyone involved. It is everyone's responsibility to act in accordance with our principles, the Safe from Harm World Policy and the Event’s Code of Conduct.
The first step to ensuring that this is a safe space is to be aware of potential risks and know how to prevent and avoid them, as well as how to react if unfortunately any unwanted situations occur.
For that reason, all participants, volunteers, staff and hosts must take the Safe from Harm learning path and provide the certificate as part of the registration process for the event. Click here to take the course.
Listening Ears Station (LE)
At the event you will find a quiet and safe space dedicated to Listening Ears, where a team of volunteers will be available to join during Conference hours for anyone who needs a conversation or to debrief a situation.
The role of the LE people is to guide and support anyone in need whether a participant faces a risk of harm or experiences discomfort at the event. The Listening Ears station provides a welcoming, safe, non-threatening and non-judgemental environment for participants to proactively seek help on behalf of themselves or others. In addition to this, as a first point of contact, they support all event participants, regardless of age or professional role, with issues of mental and emotional wellbeing.
Reporting safety concerns during the event
If you experience or witness a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable, scared or threatened during the event or you witness someone doing so, it is your duty to report it.
